HONOLULU, HAWAI‘I (Sept. 21, 2012)—Pioneering New York DJ Rekha turns up the volume at the Honolulu Museum of Art this month when she spins her trademark bhangra beats at ARTafterDARK: Accha! Sept. 28.

DJ Rekha was one of the first DJs to merge bhangra—Punjabi folk music and dance that has evolved into a distinctive club staple—with hip hop and electronic dance music. In 2008 the Honolulu Museum of Art introduced the sound to Honolulu when DJ Rekha played to the delight of 2,200 people moving rapturously to her music at ARTafterDARK: So Sari.
